Alternative Pain Management
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
PRP therapy uses a concentration of your own platelets and plasma proteins to support healing and reduce inflammation in selected tissues.
What to expect
Talk with us about whether PRP may be appropriate for your situation.
Understand the therapy before deciding.
Each service page is organized around the questions you may bring into a consultation: what the therapy is, what it may support, what concerns it is commonly discussed for, and which cautions we should review first.
Overview
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy, or PRP, is a regenerative medicine option prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed to concentrate platelets and plasma proteins, then injected into selected areas of degenerative or injured tissue. PRP is used to amplify natural growth factors that can support healing, reduce inflammation, and help relieve pain.
Potential benefits
Can support healing, inflammation reduction, and pain relief for selected joint, tendon, ligament, and muscle concerns.
Common uses
We can talk through PRP for osteoarthritis and injured ligaments, tendons, and muscles when your health history makes treatment appropriate.
Safety, side effects, and preparation
These notes are not a substitute for medical advice, but they can help you know what to tell us before treatment. Health history, medications, implanted devices, and aftercare needs can all matter.
Important cautions
Thrombocytopenia, hemophilia, blood thinner use including NSAIDs, cancer, chemotherapy treatment, or autoimmune disease may make PRP a poor fit. There is a theoretical risk of blood clot formation, especially if you have a history of blood clots.
Possible side effects
Possible mild injection-site pain, local redness, infection at the injection site, and rare clot-related concerns. Infection requires medical treatment.
Preparation and aftercare
Avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 hours after treatment. Avoid NSAID medication for seven days before and after treatment. Avoid alcohol and smoking for seven days before and after treatment. Do not apply ice or heat to the area for five days after treatment.
